Power outages possible across Armenia after nuclear power station shuts down following lightning strike late Aug. 30.

A lightning strike late Aug. 30 caused the shutdown of Armenia's only nuclear power station located around 25 km (15 miles) outside Yerevan. The incident occurred at around 21:55; officials are working to restart the plant.

Power outages and associated transport and business disruptions are possible across Armenia over the coming hours. Mobile, voice, and internet service disruptions may also occur.

Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving any area impacted by a power outage. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary.
