Bangladesh, India: Increased security, disruptions to occur along border between the two countries as of Aug. 5

The Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) have announced they will maintain high alert along the Indian-Bangladesh border due to the violent unrest that is occurring in Bangladesh, as well as the resignation of its former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, as of Aug. 5. BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary, along with other senior officials, have arrived in Kolkata to oversee the ongoing developments along the border. Authorities have directed all ground personnel to be deployed along the border and to maintain an increased posture as they wait for further instructions. Authorities will likely maintain heightened security measures around the India-Bangladesh border, including setting up roadblocks and stationing additional personnel. Clashes between security personnel and individuals attempting to cross the border cannot be ruled out. Transport and business disruptions are likely.
