Bangladesh, India: Increased security, disruptions to occur along border between the two countries as of Aug. 5 /update 1

The Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) have announced they will maintain high alert along the Indian-Bangladesh border due to the violent unrest occurring in Bangladesh, as well as the resignation of its former prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, as of Aug. 5. Indian rail services to Bangladesh, including the Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express, have also been suspended until further notice. Authorities have directed all ground personnel to be deployed along the border and to maintain an increased posture as they wait for further instructions.

Authorities will likely maintain heightened security measures around the India-Bangladesh border, including setting up roadblocks and stationing additional personnel. Transport and business disruptions are likely. Businesses that transport goods through the shared border may face shipping delays.
