France: Increased security in Besancon following shooting, Aug. 25

Police are investigating the scene of a deadly shooting in the Montrapon area of Besancon, Doubs Department, Aug. 25. Security services were alerted around 15:00 after two individuals were shot along the Rue de l'Epitaphe and in a nearby park. No suspect has been apprehended. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Heightened security is likely in the coming hours. Localized transport and road travel disruptions are likely until authorities lift the security perimeter.

Besancon is located about 72km (45 miles) east of Dijon.
