Community groups plan to demonstrate in Athens, Greece, from 20:00 Aug. 9. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.
Local community groups plan to demonstrate in Athens from 20:00 Aug. 9. Participants will gather at the junction of Tsamadou and Stournari to denounce the development of a metro station in Exarcheia Square. Based on previous rallies in this campaign, several hundred may take part.
Police will almost certainly deploy additional personnel to monitor the gathering. Localized transport disruptions are probable. Low-level clashes between protesters and police are possible. Any violence would pose an incidental risk to bystanders.
Avoid the protest as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in the affected area in the evening of Aug. 9. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement personnel.
