Mexico: Activists march in downtown Puebla, Puebla State, Aug. 29
Activists stage protest march to Casa Aguayo in downtown Puebla, Puebla State, Mexico, Aug. 29.
Activists from the People's Union of Street Vendors (Union Popular de Vendedores Ambulantes, UPVA 28 de Octubre) launched a protest march in downtown Puebla, Puebla State, on Aug. 29. The demonstration commemorates and demands justice for activists killed in 2017. Activists gathered near Plaza Dorada on Bulevar 5 de Mayo before marching towards the Zocalo and the Casa Aguayo, the final destination.
The demonstration will likely cause localized transport and business disruptions. Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence nearby as a precaution. Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.
Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. Allow additional time for travel in central Puebla on Jan. 7. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
