Mexico: Activists to demonstrate nationwide Sept. 1
Activists affiliated with civic group to stage protests in cities across Mexico Sept. 1. Heightened security, localized disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the National Front for 40 Hours plan to demonstrate across Mexico on Sept. 1 to demand a shorter federal work week. Protest participation will probably vary significantly by location. The largest gathering will likely occur in Mexico City, where participants intend to gather at the Zocalo from 09:00 before marching toward the Chamber of Deputies. Demonstration organizers have indicated that most of the gatherings will start between 09:00 and 10:00. The following demonstrations will probably be the most well-attended:
Guadalajara: March from Palacio Federal to Plaza de la Liberacion starting from 10:00.
Monterrey: Gathering at the Macroplaza from 09:00.
Puebla: March from Plaza Dorada to Puebla State Congress starting from 09:00.
Queretaro: Gathering at Plaza de Armas from 17:00.
Tijuana: Gathering at Glorieta Cuauhtemoc from 09:00.
Villahermosa: March from Parque Juarez a Plaza de Armas starting from 10:00.
Leon: Gathering at Arco de la Calzada from 11:00.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinities of most demonstration sites. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators become overly disruptive or ignore any orders from police to disperse.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near impacted areas. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed the instructions of authorities.
