Mexico: Civic activists to demonstrate in multiple cities against kidnappings Aug. 30
Civic activists to protest in cities across Mexico Aug. 30 to denounce kidnappings. Heightened security, localized disruptions likely.
Activists from multiple organizations plan to stage demonstrations across Mexico to commemorate International Day of Victims of Forced Disappearance and demand justice for victims of kidnappings on Aug. 30. Protest participation will probably vary significantly by location. The largest gathering will likely occur in Mexico City, where participants intend to gather at the Angel de la Independencia from 09:00. Additional demonstrations include the following:
Hermosillo: March from Plaza Emiliana de Zubeldia to Sonora State Attorney General's office starting from 18:00.
Chihuahua: March from Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Church to Cruz de Clavos starting from 13:00.
Veracruz: March from Tranvia del Recuerdo to Marcoplaza Del Malecon starting from 10:00.
Morelia: Plaza de Armas from 16:00.
Puebla: March from Puebla State Attorney General's office to Zocalo starting from 10:00.
La Paz: March from Parque Morelos toward the Government Palace of Baja California Sur from 17:00.
Related demonstrations are highly likely to take place in additional cities throughout Mexico.
Increased security and localized transport disruptions will likely affect the vicinities of most demonstration sites. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators become overly disruptive or ignore any orders from police to disperse.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near impacted areas. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed the instructions of authorities.
