An emergency response is ongoing at the Kiteezi Landfill in northern Kampala after a large pile of waste collapsed earlier on Aug. 10. The collapse reportedly buried several structures in the area. There have been no confirmed casualties.

Emergency services will almost certainly remain on-site through Aug. 11. Disruptions to road travel in the area are likely. Officials could close nearby road routes. Demonstrations in response to the incident are possible by local residents. Any protests are likely to be monitored and potentially dispersed by police.

Avoid the affected area until the emergency response concludes. Persons in the area should heed the directives of security forces. Avoid all public gatherings. If protests develop, consider leaving the area.
