Argentina: Public sector workers to hold 24-hour nationwide strike Sept. 11, with protest in Buenos Aires
Unionized government workers to stage 24-hour nationwide strike in Argentina Sept. 11; rally planned in Buenos Aires.
Unionized public workers affiliated with the Government Workers' Association (Asociacion de Trabajadores del Estado, ATE) plan to hold a nationwide 24-hour strike in Argentina on Sept. 11. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand members of Congress override the president's veto of a recent pension reform bill. Additionally, members of ATE and several related organizations plan to rally outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires starting at 13:00.
The strike will likely disrupt operations at most government offices, including ministries and registries. Airports, and public transport should not be impacted. Heightened security and transport and business disruptions are likely around the National Congress as the planned rally is taking place. Clashes between protesters and police have occurred during recent similar protests, and are possible on Sept. 11. Related protests are also possible in other major cities.
Confirm business appointments with government agencies for Sept. 11. Avoid all protests as a precaution, and heed instructions from authorities.
