Argentina: Unionized pilots, other airline workers to launch nationwide strike on Sept. 13-14

Unionized airline pilots, other aviation workers to strike nationwide in Argentina Sept. 13-14. Reconfirm flights.

Warning

Unionized pilots affiliated with the Airline Pilots' Association (Asociacion de Pilotos de Lineas Aereas, APLA), and other air travel workers plan to launch a 24-hour strike on Sept. 12 to press for higher wages, among other demands. The walkout will begin 12:00 Sept. 13 and end at 12:00 Sept. 14. Although the action will primarily target Aerolineas Argentinas (AR), potentially impacting all of that carrier's flights during the strike period, civil aviation authorities expect that other airlines will be affected as well. The main impact will probably be to flights serving Jorge Newbery Airfield (AEP) and Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) in the Buenos Aires region, the two busiest airports in the country.

Significant flight delays and cancellations are likely Sept. 13-14; lingering disruptions could extend well into Sept. 15 as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs.

Reconfirm flights if booked to travel Sept. 13 through at least early Sept. 15. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed.

The Sept. 13-14 strike, follows a similar nine-hour strike on Sept. 6, which affected nearly 200 flights and close to 15,000 passengers. Union leaders assert that further work stoppages are possible.
