Bangladesh: Tight security certain in Science Lab area of Dhaka through late September following clashes

Increased security likely in Dhaka's Science Lab area, Bangladesh, through late September. Further protests, clashes possible.

Warning

Further protests and clashes between rival student groups are possible in the Science Lab area of Dhaka through late September. Hundreds of Dhaka College and Ideal College students clashed near the campuses Sept. 10 and 15. Dozens of people were injured, and participants vandalized school property. A disagreement between two groups on social media reportedly caused the unrest. Officials have closed Ideal College as a precaution.

Heightened security measures will likely continue in the affected area over the coming days. Police will probably use measures such as tear gas to disperse disruptive crowds forcibly. They will also likely close roads in the area if violence breaks out. Localized transport and business disruptions are possible.

Avoid gatherings in the area due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near gatherings.
