Brazil: Activists plan to gather in Sao Paulo on Sept. 22
Activists plan to gather on Avenida Paulista in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 14:00 on Sept. 22. Localized disruptions likely.
Climate activists plan to demonstrate in Sao Paulo on Sept. 22. Participants will gather from 14:00 outside the Museum of Art of Sao Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo Assis Chateaubriand, MASP) on Avenida Paulista. The purpose of the gathering is to demand that officials hold accountable those responsible for human-caused wildfires reported in recent weeks in several parts of Brazil. Activists affiliated with the Unified Workers' Central (Central Unica dos Trabalhadores, CUT) will also support the demonstration.
Localized transport and business disruptions are likely in the area, especially along Avenida Paulista. Authorities will likely deploy an increased police presence to monitor gatherings. The demonstration will likely pass peacefully; however, skirmishes cannot be ruled out.
Exercise heightened vigilance near demonstrations. Allow additional time for journeys in affected areas. Heed all official directives. Leave the area at the first sign of a security disturbance.
