Labor unions to demonstrate at the International Fair in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 17:30 Sept. 7. Increased security likely.

Informational

Labor unions plan to demonstrate at the International Fair in Thessaloniki from 17:30 Sept. 7. Multiple unions will demand increased salaries, improved working conditions, and other changes to government industrial policy. Different sources indicate that participants will gather in the YMCA Park at 17:30 or at the Venizelos Statue at 18:00. It is possible that different groups will muster in each location, or that activists will march from one location to the other. It is likely that several hundred to thousands will take part in the event, based on previous years.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. The event will likely pass off peacefully.

Avoid the protest as standard precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted area. Seek alternative routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed the instructions of authorities.

The Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) will run from Sept. 7-15 at the Exhibition and Congress Centre (HELEXPO). It is an annual event, and labor unions have staged a parallel demonstration in recent years.
