India: Fuel drivers plan to strike across Mizoram State from Sept. 17

Fuel drivers plan indefinite strike across Mizoram State, India, from Sept. 17. Fuel shortages ongoing; protests possible.

Warning

Fuel tanker drivers from the Mizoram Oil Tanker Drivers Association (MOTDA) and Petroleum Entrepreneurs and Transport Union (PETUM) have called for an indefinite strike from Sept. 17 to denounce poor road conditions in the state. Fuel shortages are reportedly ongoing in some parts of Mizoram as oil tankers are stranded along affected roads. Additional shortages are possible at fuel stations across the state during the action. Fuel shortages may affect business operations, public and private transport services, and ground shipping. Long lines are possible at petrol stations.

Striking drivers could stage protests, mainly outside fuel stations, government buildings, and along major thoroughfares. Police will likely monitor any demonstrations that materialize and attempt to disperse participants if they become disruptive. Clashes between protesters and security personnel are possible.

Plan for fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations during the strike. Confirm all ground transport services before travel. Do not buy fuel on the black market. Refuel vehicles when supply is available. Avoid all demonstrations.
