Unionized farmers continuing protests in Chandigarh, India, through Sept. 5. Localized transport disruptions likely. Clashes possible.
Unionized farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) are continuing protests at the Sector 34 Exhibition Ground near Sham Mall in Chandigarh through Sept. 5. Around 7,000 farmers have been protesting at the location since Sept. 1 to call for reforms in agricultural policies. The protest has reportedly caused traffic congestion in the surrounding areas. Additional gatherings could occur in other locations, including prominent government buildings, public squares, and thoroughfares.
Authorities are imposing increased security measures at the protest site and surrounding areas. Security forces could use force, including baton charges and tear gas, to disperse unruly crowds. Clashes between police and activists are possible. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely near protests.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for potential localized business and transport disruptions, particularly rail service interruptions. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
