Activists block route to Hermanos Serdan International Airport in Huejotzingo, Puebla State, Mexico, Sept. 20; heightened security reported.

Warning

Dozens of protesters have blocked the highway leading to Hermanos Serdan International Airport (PBC) in Huejotzingo, Puebla State, on Sept. 20. The purpose of the protest activity is to demand justice for the recent killing of a local girl and call for a related meeting with the mayor of Huejotzingo. Police officers have deployed to the site of the protest blockade. There were no immediate reports of significant flight disruptions at PBC in connection with the protest. Demonstrators also reportedly blocked traffic near the local Enrique Martinez Marquez School, where the deceased girl attended classes.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence near the protest activity. Traffic disruptions will likely affect the area until the protesters disperse. Clashes between demonstrators and police, while unlikely, cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest activity as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the affected area and any traffic disruptions. Allow extra time to travel to PBC. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
