Serbia: LGBTQ groups plan to stage Pride March through central Belgrade, Sept. 7
LGBTQ groups to march through central Belgrade, Serbia, from 16:00 on Sept. 7. Increased security likely; counterprotests possible.
LGBTQ organizations and affiliated groups plan to march through central Belgrade from 16:00 on Sept. 7 as part of the Belgrade Pride event. Participants will gather at Manjez Park from 16:00, where the march will start at 17:00; they will then march to the House of the National Assembly, and later return to Manjez Park, where the event will conclude. Several thousand participants are likely to attend the event.
Counterprotests are possible. In 2022, Serbia's President restricted the Pride march, and on several occasions, political activists gathered to demonstrate against it being held in Belgrade. Similar rallies are possible during the 2024 event.
Heightened security measures and related localized disruptions are likely in Belgrade in coming days. Protests, counterprotests, and isolated skirmishes are possible. Any violence presents an incidental risk to bystanders.
Consider avoiding the area if operating in downtown Belgrade Sept. 7. Allow additional time to reach destinations near event locations. Heed the instructions of authorities.
