Several explosions reported in Mogadishu, Somalia, late Sept. 7; lingering heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Authorities will likely maintain heightened security measures in parts of Mogadishu over the coming hours after several explosions were reported in the capital late Sept. 7. Unconfirmed reports have alleged that the blasts were caused by rounds of mortar fire that impacted the Hamarweyne, Yaqshid, and Heliwa districts. Officials did not immediately report any casualties in connection with the explosions.

Localized transport disruptions will probably affect areas subject to increased security. Business disruptions may also impact areas affected by heightened security and transport disruptions.

Avoid the sites of the blasts and exercise increased vigilance until the situation normalizes. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent affected areas and any disruptions. If mortar fire is reported in your area, immediately seek shelter and stay away from windows and exterior walls; if possible, move to a ground floor or basement. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
