Uganda: Protests possible in the coming days nationwide, notably Kampala, in support of opposition leader injured on Sept. 3
Protests possible in coming days across Uganda, notably Kampala, after police forces injured opposition leader on Sept. 3. Avoid protests.
Protests are possible in the coming days nationwide, notably in Kampala, after police forces injured opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (also known as Bobi Wine) on Sept. 3. While Kyagulanyi supporters claimed he was shot in the leg during a march in the Bulindo area, police officials said his injury was a result of a stumble. An increased security presence has been reported near the Nsambya Saint Francis Hospital, where Bobi Wine is being treated. Police forces are reportedly monitoring roads near the hospital to prevent potential protests from occurring.
Security forces will likely deploy to any gathering that materializes and attempt to disperse them, raising the risk of clashes with protesters. Localized traffic disruptions are possible in the vicinity.
Avoid all protests. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Heed instructions from authorities.
