Argentina: Education activists to protest outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires, Oct. 9
Education activists to rally outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 11:00 Oct. 9, to oppose a presidential veto.
Unionized education activists, including workers, members of the National Federation of University Professors (Federacion Nacional de Docentes Universitarios, CONADU), students, and members of opposition political parties, plan to rally outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires on Oct. 9 to demand Congress overrule a presidential veto and support a law financing public education. The rally is scheduled to start at 11:00, to coincide with a debate inside Congress, where lawmakers will vote to approve or deny the presidential veto.
Thousands will likely participate in the demonstration, which will likely prompt heightened security and associated transport and business disruptions in the area. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.
As a precaution, avoid the protest. Strictly heed instructions from authorities. Plan for delays and consider alternative routes if operating in downtown Buenos Aires on Oct. 9.
