Informational

Officials concluded the security operation in the Cidade Alta, Pica-Pau, and Cinco Bocas areas of Rio de Janeiro's North Zone on Oct. 24. Avenida Brasil, as well as the Penha Circular, Bras de Pina, Cordovil, Parada de Lucas, and Vigario Geral train stations have been reopened. The police operation aimed to enforce arrest warrants in the area, but officers retreated after intense armed clashes with suspects. During the operation, stray bullets killed at least two people and injured four others on Avenida Brasil near the Cidade Alta area.

Heightened security and lingering disruptions to business and traffic are likely in the affected area in the coming hours. Further armed clashes affecting the main thoroughfares in the area, especially along Avenida Brasil, cannot be ruled out.
