Bangladesh: Protest activity reported in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Barisal late Nov. 25

Activists gather in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Barisal, Bangladesh, late Nov. 25 to denounce arrest of Hindu religious leader; clashes reported.

Warning

Protesters have reportedly gathered in multiple cities in Bangladesh late Nov. 25 to denounce the arrest of Hindu religious leader Chinmoy Prabhu in Dhaka earlier in the day. Related demonstrations have been reported at Shahbag Square in Dhaka, Cheragi Pahar Square in Chattogram, and near the Town Hall in Barisal. Unconfirmed reports indicate that clashes have accompanied some of the protest activity. Hundreds of people appear to have gathered at each of the abovementioned protest locations.

Clashes may continue at the demonstration locations into at least the early hours of Nov. 26. Authorities will almost certainly maintain an increased security presence at each protest location until the demonstrators disperse. Transport and business disruptions are likely in areas subject to protest activity and heightened security.

Avoid the demonstrations as a standard precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the affected areas and any disruptions. Immediately depart the location at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
