Germany: Authorities plan to dispose of unexploded WWII ordnance in Kiel Dec. 1
Authorities plan to conduct WWII bomb disposal operation in Dietrichsdorf District in Kiel, Germany, from 10:00 Dec. 1. Evacuations planned.
Authorities plan to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb found on the eastern bank of the Schwentine River in Kiel from 10:00 on Dec. 1. Around 4,000 residents must evacuate from the affected area by 10:00; the impacted area includes part of the Dietrichsdorf District and a part of the Wellingdorf District. The Neumuhlen-Dietrichsdorf port terminal will reportedly be outside of the evacuated area. While authorities plan to close roads in the affected area, they have stated that Federal Highway 502 will remain open throughout the operation. It was not immediately clear how long the operation would last.
The evacuation order, heightened security, and road closures will likely cause localized transport disruptions during the bomb disposal operation.
Avoid the affected area on Dec. 1 until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
