Bolivia: Unionized health workers' strike continues to disrupt medical services in Santa Cruz Department as of Dec. 18
Unionized health workers' strike continues to disrupt medical services in Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia, as of Dec. 18
Unionized healthcare workers affiliated with the Federation of Health Workers Unions (Federacion de Sindicatos de Trabajadores de Salud) continue to strike in Santa Cruz Department as of Dec. 18. Disruptions to medical services have been reported across hospitals and healthcare centers in the department, including at Hospital de la Villa Primero de Mayo, since workers started the action on Dec. 16 to make several labor-related demands. The strike is planned to end Dec. 18.
The work stoppage will likely continue to prompt significant healthcare service disruptions, including a reduction in available services and cancelations of routine appointments. Disruptions could persist for several days following the strike as medical facilities deal with a backlog of patients. Demonstrations outside medical facilities are possible and could cause localized disruption, as well as accompanying heightened security.
Confirm all appointments at medical facilities for the duration of the strike. Be prepared for delays at hospitals; call in advance if possible as available medical services will likely vary between facilities. Allow additional time for travel near likely gathering sites. Avoid all protest activity as a precaution. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
