Germany: Activists to stage protest march in Berlin, Jan. 12
Political activists to stage protest march in Berlin, Germany, from 14:00 Jan. 12. Increased security likely.
Anticapitalist groups plan to protest in Berlin from 14:00 Jan. 12. Campaigners will stage the annual "Lenin, Luxemburg, Liebknecht (LLL)" rally and mark the anniversary of the deaths of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht in 1919. Local authorities have approved a march route for participants: the event will start at the Grosser Weg junction with Strasse des 17 Juni, then follow Grosser Weg and Lichtensteinallee to Lichtensteinbrucke. It is possible that several hundred to over a thousand may take part in the event.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the gathering area. Road closures and pedestrian congestion will likely prompt localized transport disruptions near the march route. The rally will likely pass off peacefully.
Avoid the protest site as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Heed instructions from law enforcement officers. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
