Authorities completed their operation to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb in central Dresden, Saxony, on the afternoon of Jan. 9. Officials have lifted their evacuation order and crews are departing the operation site. The unexploded bomb was discovered in the Elbe River near the Carola Bridge in the city center. Officials had implemented a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) evacuation zone. Police had closed multiple roads, including Terrassenufer and Rathenauplatz, during the site investigation on Jan. 8.
Residual heightened security, transport disruptions, and business disruptions near the operation site will gradually subside over the coming hours.
Allow additional time for travel near the operation site as authorities depart and evacuated residents return. Strictly heed all instructions from officials.
