Authorities are investigating an unexploded World War II bomb in central Dresden, Saxony, on Jan. 8. The unexploded bomb was discovered in the Elbe River near Carola Bridge in the city center. Police have closed multiple roads, including Carolabrucke, Terrassenufer, and Rathenauplatz. While bomb disposal experts continue investigating the device, police state a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) evacuation zone will be implemented. However, it is currently unclear when the evacuation and subsequent disposal operation will occur.

Heightened security will likely affect areas near the bomb site for the duration of the operation. Significant road travel and business disruptions are likely in the impacted area.

If traveling through the impacted area on Jan. 8, consider taking alternate routes to reduce travel delays. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
