Argentina: Teacher strike in Buenos Aires July 11

Teachers in the capital Buenos Aires have launched yet another strike to demand salary increases amid high inflation. The 24-hour strike, taking place on Tuesday, July 11, could result in school closures and will be accompanied by at least one street protest. Teachers will gather in front of the municipal Ministry of Education building beginning at 11:00 (local time) and march to the Buenos Aires City Legislature building. Localized traffic disruptions are likely along the march route.

Context

This will be the 11th day of strikes carried out by teachers in the city since the beginning of the year. The July 11 strike comes despite seemingly successful negotiations between unions representing teachers in Buenos Aires province and the government, held on July 4. 

While the majority of demonstrations in Argentina take place without major incident, larger ones can result in major traffic chaos that can significantly disrupt daily life. Clashes with security forces and other low-intensity violence occasionally occurs.
