Warning

Event

Various unions and social groups are calling for protests to take place on Friday, November 10, to denounce reforms to the country’s labor and retirement systems introduction by the Temer government. The reforms, approved in June, are set to take effect on November 11. Demonstrations are planned for 24 state capitals across the country - including the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo - as well as in the national capital Brasília. In São Paulo protesters are expected to gather at 09:30 (local time) at the Praça da Sé, before marching down Avenida Paulista.

As with all protests in Brazil, there is a risk of confrontations between demonstrators and security forces, as well as localized traffic disruptions.

Context

Brazil has seen numerous protests in response to reforms and policies proposed by President Michel Temer in recent months.

Advice

Individuals in Brazil are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution and to keep abreast of the sociopolitical context.
