New winter storm set to hit mid-Atlantic and northeast March 20-21; travel disruptions and power outages possible

Winter Storm Toby is striking the northeast, the mid-Atlantic, and the southeast as of Tuesday, March 20. According to current forecasts, the Washington, DC, area is expected to receive up to 20 cm (8 in) of snow, with other affected areas receiving up to 35 cm (14 in) through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued winter weather alerts for all or parts of the following states: DC, Massachusetts (including the Boston area), Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York (including the New York City area), Pennsylvania (including the Philadelphia area), Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Transportation disruptions (air, rail, road) are possible throughout the region, along with power outages. Flight disruptions are likely at airports in New York/Newark (JFK, LGA, EWR), DC/Baltimore (BWI, DCA, IAD), Boston (BOS), Hartford (BDL), Philadelphia (PHL), and Providence (PVD), among others.

Three major winter storms, Quinn, Riley, and Skylar, have hit the northeast since the beginning of March, resulting in major transportation disruptions, days-long power outages, and at least nine deaths.
