A powerful tropical storm caused severe damages across the country on Wednesday, April 25; continued stormy conditions are forecast until the afternoon of Friday, April 27 (local time). Numerous houses have been damaged by strong winds and hail. The capital Vientiane has been particularly hard hit, with power outages reported in the Naxaythong, Saysettha, Sikhottabong, and Sisattanak districts April 25-26.

Context

The rainy season, coinciding with the Southeast Asia typhoon season, is expected to start soon and continue until November; the south of the country and areas along the Mekong River will likely be most strongly impacted.
