Argentina: Five marches to the capital May 28 to June 1
Five marches - from La Quiaca, La Rioja, Posadas, Bariloche, and Ushuaia - to converge on Buenos Aires June 1

A “Federal March for Bread and Work” is set begin in five provinces on Monday, May 28. The caravans are set to leave from the cities of La Quiaca, La Rioja, Posadas, Bariloche, and Ushuaia, ending in Buenos Aires on Friday, June 1. A final demonstration will take place on Friday, with protesters marching from the Pueyrredón Bridge and Retiro to the National Congress building.
The caravan routes are the following:
- La Quiaca - San Salvador de Jujuy - Salta - Tucumán - Santiago del Estero - Córdoba - Rosario - Buenos Aires
- La Rioja - San Juan - Mendoza - San Luis - Córdoba - Buenos Aires
- Posadas - Resistencia - Corrientes - Santa Fe - Buenos Aires
- Bariloche - Neuquén - Santa Rosa - Azul - Buenos Aires
- Ushuaia - Buenos Aires
Traffic disruptions are possible along the various march routes.
Context
The protests come amid years of high inflation. Civic groups are demanding the government implement food emergency legislation. They are also denouncing government plans to turn to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) for economic assistance due to fears of further austerity measures.
