At least eight injured in a knife attack in a bus in Xi’an (Saanxi province) on June 22

A stabbing attack was carried out on a public bus near the Mindu Shopping Plaza in Xi'an (Saanxi province) around 15:45 (local time) on Friday, June 22. At least eight people were injured in the incident. The assailant stabbed bus passengers before exiting the bus and stabbing individuals on the street. The assailant has since been detained; his motives remain unknown.

Context

Similar criminal incidents involving casualties have been reported at an increasing rate in recent years. This is the second such incident perpetrated on public transportation in the past week; on June 18, at least 15 individuals were injured when an explosive device detonated on a bus in Leshan (Sichuan province).
