National 24-hour teacher strike July 3; school closures and protests likely

Teachers throughout Argentina are holding a 24-hour strike on Tuesday, July 3, which may result in some school closures. Street protests are also to be anticipated, including a demonstration in the capital Buenos Aires in front of the Ministry of Education building.

The union behind the strike, the CTERA, represents some 100,000 teachers nationwide. 

Context

While the majority of demonstrations in Argentina take place without major incident, larger ones can result in major traffic congestion. Clashes with security forces and other low-intensity violence occasionally occurs.
