National transportation sector strike (bus, coaches, taxis, trucks) July 19; associated protests and roadblocks likely
Event
A nationwide transportation sector strike is set to take place on Thursday, July 19. Municipal bus drivers, coach bus drivers, taxi drivers, and truck drivers will all take part. Associated protests and roadblocks, with the potential to trigger clashes between demonstrators and security forces, are possible throughout the country, both on highways and on city streets.
The action comes following recent strikes by taxi drivers in the capital Tegucigalpa and the city of La Ceiba. Further such localized protests are possible in the run-up to the national strike.
Advice
Individuals in Honduras are advised to avoid all protests as a
precaution, never attempt to cross a roadblock without authorization,
and be prepared for increased traffic congestion on strike days. More
generally, individuals in Honduras are advised against using public
transportation and inter-city buses for security reasons.
