Government rescue operations continued in southern Attapeu province on Wednesday, July 25, after a dam collapsed in the Sanamxay district on Monday, July 23. According to local officials, as of Wednesday least 17 people have been killed and more than 3000 others still need to be rescued. Around 2850 people have already been saved by emergency responders. At least seven villages have been flooded and thousands of people have lost their homes. The death toll from the incident will likely rise as rescue operations continue in the coming days.
