Relief operations continue in flooded areas of Attapeu province in southern Laos as of August 14

Flood relief operations continue three weeks after a hydroelectric dam that had been under construction collapsed and flooded parts of Attapeu province (southeast). The Laotian government, UN agencies, and NGOs are jointly working to bring clean water, food, shelter, and medical aid to the thousands of affected people.
Context
In July, Tropical Storm Son-Tinh brought heavy rain, which caused flooding in 13 provinces. On July 23, the abovementioned dam collapsed, causing catastrophic flooding in the region. As of August 13, 36 people have been confirmed dead, another 100 remain missing, and 6600 are still displaced.
The rainy season in Laos runs from May through November, coinciding with the Southeast Asian typhoon season. Various mountainous regions are vulnerable to landslides during this period, and floods regularly occur along the Mekong river basins.
