A gunfight broke out between bank robbers and police officers in the town of Milagres (Ceará state) on the morning (local time) of Friday, December 7. The gang was attempting to rob ATMs at two banks on the town’s main street at around 02:30 before the police arrived. During the gunfight, the robbers took a family hostage before escaping the area. According to local officials, at least 12 people were killed, including six police officers. An operation is underway to locate the gang.
