Netherlands: Far-right group to rally in Eindhoven May 26

The far-right Patriotic Europeans against the Islamisation of the West (PEGIDA) group is organizing a rally in Eindhoven on Sunday, May 26. Participants are expected to gather at the intersection of Kruisstraat-Pastoor Petersstraat in Oud Woensel at 19:00 before marching to the Al-Fourqaan mosque on Otterstraat. Eindhoven city officials have announced heightened security measures during the event. All vehicles are to be removed from the mosque’s parking lot on Sunday and a fence will be erected around the building. Additional security cameras will also be installed in the public areas around the mosque. Police officers will escort the marchers and roads along the route will be blocked during the rally. Counterprotests may also be organized but as of Friday, May 24, it is unclear if any have been announced. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces or counterprotesters cannot be ruled out.
