Spain: Severe weather warning issued in several communities July 8
A total of 13 communities are under severe weather alerts in northern Spain
Event
As of Monday, July 8, 13 communities have been placed under orange alert due to heavy rains and storms, with the possibility of hail and strong wind gusts. Burgos, Castilla, Cuenca, Castilla la Mancha, Leon, Ourense, Palencia, Rioja, Soria, Teruel, Valencia, Valladolid, and Zamora are all under an orange alert. Most areas are under orange alert for the day, though others are affected through Tuesday, July 9.
Heavy rains, strong winds, and associated disruptions, including road closures, and train and flight delays and cancelations are possible. Residual disruptions to transportation are possible in the coming days.
Advice
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor developments, prepare for residual disruptions, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain chemical products and wastewater; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
