Authorities close Barcelona’s San Sebastian beach due to unexploded bomb; heightened security presence in area

Police officials partially evacuated and closed San Sebastian beach in Barcelona due to a found unexploded Civil War bomb on Monday, August 26. The bomb was found on Sunday, August 25, and authorities are conducting an operation to move the bomb into the ocean in order to conduct a controlled explosion. The beach is expected to remain closed through Monday.

Officials state that the bomb may contain an estimated 70 kg (154 lbs) of explosives.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to expected in the vicinity of the beach.
