Protests are ongoing in Barcelona as of the morning (local time) on Monday, October 14, after the Supreme Court sentenced nine Catalonian pro-independence activists to between nine and 13 years in prison over their role in the region's bid for independence in 2017. A heightened security presence has been reported, as protesters are starting to gather across the city.

Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the coming hours throughout Barcelona. Protests in other urban centers across Catalunya are possible. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
