Greece: Infrastructure damage reported following winter storm January 6-7

Event

A recent snowstorm, Hephaestion, has caused significant infrastructure damage across the country on Monday, January 6, and Tuesday, January 7. Around 20,000 people were left without electricity on the Aegean and Tinos islands on Tuesday. Additional power cuts were also reported in the islands of Andros, Evia and Zakynthos. Snowfall disrupted ferries and shipping and prompted authorities to close roads in several islands. The storm is now moving eastward, away from Greece, though downpours and snowfall are to be expected in the eastern mountainous areas of Viotia, Attica, and Evia on Wednesday.

Residual disruptions are possible in affected areas in the coming days.
