India Meteorological Department issues red alert for areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat on July 4; expect disruptions to travel

On Saturday, July 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, the highest possible in a three-tier system, for heavy rain in areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The areas expected to be worst effected are Mumbai, Pune, Satara, and Ratnagiri. The heavy weather is expected to travel northwards over Sunday, June 5, and Monday, June 6, before abating by Tuesday, June 7. Residents are advised to remain at home if possible.

Disruptions to travel and utilities are to be anticipated in the coming days as a result of the adverse weather.

Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
