Reports of explosion in Kismayo (Lower Juba region) on August 15; further attacks are possible in the area

An explosion reportedly occurred on Saturday, August 15, in the Fanole district of Kismayo (Lower Juba region). Unconfirmed media sources indicate that the blast was the result of a grenade attack at the residence of a local businessman and is suspected to have been carried out by al-Shabaab militants, however, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. There have been no confirmed reports of casualties. Security forces have reportedly launched operations in the area.

Further attacks are possible in Kismayo over the near term.
