Germany: WWII bomb disposal to prompt evacuations and transport disruptions in Dortmund's Schulte-Rodding area Jan. 13

Unexploded ordnance disposal operation in the Schulte-Rodding area of Dortmund, Germany, to prompt disruptions Jan. 13.

Warning

Event

Authorities are responding to the discovery of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Dortmund Jan. 13. The device was discovered in the Schulte-Rodding area on Innsbruckstrasse, near the intersection with Derner Strasse. Authorities will impose an approximate 150-meter (492-foot) security cordon around the device to facilitate the disposal operation from around 1430.

No traffic will be permitted within the security cordon, and all businesses and residents will be evacuated. Public transport normally routed through the area may be canceled or diverted, including the U42 tramline; increased traffic congestion is possible in the area as drivers seek alternative routes. Officials have not given a time for when the disposal is expected to conclude.

Advice

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Check public transport schedules and local traffic conditions for disruptions before travel; plan alternative routes if necessary.
