Greece: Protests scheduled in Athens and Thessaloniki evening of June 29
Protesters to gather in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, June 29; localized disruptions likely, isolated clashes possible.
Event
Activists are planning to protest in Athens and Thessaloniki from 19:00 June 29 to denounce male-dominated capitalist society and gender violence, among other issues. In Athens, participants will gather at Syntagma Square, and in Thessaloniki, they will gather at the Kamara.
Authorities will deploy additional police to the protest areas. Increased security measures, including movement restrictions, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions until the protests have concluded. Clashes are possible between police and protesters, particularly if the latter becomes disruptive or attempt to breach security cordons. Although bystanders are unlikely to be targeted in any violence, they would face a significant indirect threat.
Advice
Exercise caution near the protest sites, and avoid them due to the potential for confrontations and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow additional time for travel in affected areas.
