Authorities are planning to close a number of streets in central Yerevan Sept. 20-21 to facilitate events marking Independence Day. All roads connecting with Republic Square will be closed to traffic from 17:00 Sept. 20. On Sept. 21, the roads will close from 15:00 until the conclusion of the celebrations. Authorities have requested that people not park on the affected roads Sept. 20-21. Traffic restrictions will be in effect on other nearby roads until the Independence Day events have concluded.

Armenia typically marks Independence Day with parades, concerts, carnivals, and athletic events, though commemorative events marking the 2020 conflict with Azerbaijan are also likely. In Yerevan, official ceremonies will be held in Republic Square. The events will be attended by senior government officials. Opposition groups could stage protests in Yerevan and other cities on the day.

Traffic disruptions are likely on roads that remain open near Republic Square; public transport services will likely be diverted. Other related events in Yerevan and elsewhere could prompt minor transportation delays. The incidence of petty crime, especially pickpocketing and theft, can increase during crowded events.
