Colombia: Education workers' plan protest in Bogota, Sept. 28
Unionized workers plan protest march in Bogota, Colombia, Sept. 28, to demand investments in education.
Event
Unionized activists affiliated with several education organizations, including the Colombian Federation of Education Workers (Federacion Colombiana de Trabajadores de la Educacion, FECODE), plan to hold a protest march in Bogota, Sept. 28. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the government take a number of actions, including measures to facilitate the resumption of in-person classes, vaccinations for education workers, and investments in school infrastructure.
Activists plan to gather at Parque Nacional starting at 09:00 and then march to Plaza de Bolivar, where they plan to rally until 14:00. FECODE leaders have called on members to protest in other cities, but these events have not yet been confirmed.
Thousands of people are likely to participate in the demonstration in Bogota. The action will probably cause transport and business disruptions along the march route. Heightened security is likely, especially around government offices in downtown Bogota.
